Special Response Teams - SWAT/SRT/Honor Guard

The Edinburg CISD Police Department has established a comprehensive Special Response Team (SRT) with three specialized units:
1. Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T)
2. Special Response Team (S.R.T)
3. Honor Guard
Training and Roles
- Training: All SRT members receive extensive training from certified instructors within the department and from local, county, and state law enforcement agencies.
- Multi-Disciplinary: Many officers are trained in multiple disciplines and serve in various SRT roles.
- Mentorship: SRT officers also mentor and train other police staff, sharing advanced tactics and best practices.
Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.)
- Goal: Provide enhanced protection for students and staff.
- Training: Includes certifications in special weapons and tactics, active shooter response, and ALERRT training.
- Role: Primarily composed of School Resource Officers who are ready to respond to high-risk threats during school hours.
Special Response Team (S.R.T.)
- Goal: Assist in various emergency situations, including disruptive persons, active threats, lockdowns, medical emergencies, and natural disasters.
- Role: Not assigned to specific campuses, allowing flexibility to respond to emergencies without reducing police presence at any one location.
Honor Guard
- Goal: Represent the department in ceremonial roles and honor fallen officers.
- Role: Participate in events such as color guard, parades, funerals, and civic events.
This multifaceted approach ensures that the Edinburg CISD Police Department is well-prepared to handle a wide range of situations, providing a safe environment for students and staff.
