Special Response Teams - SWAT/ERT/Honor Guard

The Edinburg CISD Police Department has implemented a multifaceted Special Response team that is composed of three disciplines that all have specialized roles within the department.

Special Response Team - Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.)
Special Response Team - Emergency Response Team (E.R.T.)
Special Response Team - Honor Guard

All Edinburg CISD Police Special Response Teams receive training in house with our Certified Police Instructors, along with instructor from surrounding Local, County and State Law Enforcement agencies and Law Enforcement Academies.

In many instances, some of our Special Response officers are trained in, and are instructors of multiple disciplines and serve roles within more than one of our Special Response Teams regardless of their assigned SRT designation.

Our Special Response Team Officers do not only receive comprehensive, mission specific training, but serve as mentors and instructors to all ECISD Police Staff. Our Special Response Officers share enhanced tactics and best practice response protocols, through training, with all Edinburg CISD Police officers to ensure that they receive vital instruction to respond to any situation that they may encounter while protecting our schools.

SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAM - SPECIAL WEAPONS AND TACTICS

The Edinburg CISD Police Department SWAT-SRT Team's goal is to provide an additional layer of enhanced protection for our Edinburg CISD students and staff. This goal is accomplished with additional training above and beyond the already high standards held for Edinburg CISD Police Officers, which better prepares them to address special high risk issues that may pose a threat to the safety of our students. Edinburg CISD SWAT-SRT Officers are trained in several disciplines that include, but are not limited to:

- Special Weapons and Tactics Certification
- Advanced Special Weapons and Tactics Certification
- Active shooter response training
- ALERRT Training
- Many other related disciplines that ensure our SWAT-SRT officers are prepared for any situations that may arise.

The Edinburg CISD Police SWAT-SRT team mainly consists of School Resource Officers who are on duty during school hours at campuses throughout the district each day. These officers serve our student and staff population the same as all ECISD Police Officers but stand ready for quick response in the event of any enhanced threat to the safety of students and staff of their campus.

SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAM - EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM

The Edinburg CISD Police Department SRT-ERT Team's goal is to assist Police Officers that are assigned to Edinburg CISD Campuses, as well as surrounding agencies in the event of many different types of emergency situations.

Some of these incidents may include but are not limited to:

- Disruptive persons on or around a campus
- Any calls for assistance by Edinburg CISD Campus Police Officers or Campus Administrators
- Active threat Incidents
- Lockdowns (including lockdowns caused by criminal incidents that occur around a school campus).
- Medical Emergencies
- Natural Disaster response (in cooperation with City of Edinburg Fire and Police Departments as well as County of Hidalgo Emergency Management and the State of Texas Emergency Management)
- Emergency Shelters
- Any other emergency situation that may arise in or around the Edinburg CISD area.

SRT - ERT Officers are generally not assigned to a specific Edinburg CISD campus. This allows these officers to respond to situations without depriving any individual campus of Police presence.

SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAM - HONOR GUARD

The Edinburg CISD Police Department Honor Guard team's goal is to represent the Edinburg CISD Police Department in ceremonial roles and to honor and stand guard over fallen active and retired Police Officers.
The Edinburg CISD Police Honor Guard represents the Edinburg CISD Police Department in formal ceremonies such as color guard, parades, casket watches, funerals, retirements, and civic events.
